ABOUT IMC

What is IMC?

What is IMC?

IMC stands for Infantry Melee weapon Combatives.

It is a comprehensive close-combat program within a broader self-protection framework that blends Historical European Martial Arts, modern military tactics, and real-world violence research.

At its core, IMC focuses on five essential melee weapon categories, supported by one decisive element: the combat mindset.

The goal is to prepare people for dangerous altercations, crisis situations, and moments where distance collapses and action becomes necessary.

IMC develops practical skill, tactical awareness, mental toughness, and disciplined action under pressure.

the 5 main imc weapons

Focused on five core weapon categories, each representing a wider family of melee and improvised weapons (sister weapons). By learning one, you learn the concepts & principles behind many.

Mindset

The combat mindset is the sixth and most important weapon.

It is the ability to stay composed under pressure, make sound decisions, and act with confidence when seconds count.

Train the mind. The body will follow.

Character

Skill without character is incomplete.

IMC values discipline, courage, responsibility, and honor—building not only capable fighters, but dependable people.

Train the weapon. Strengthen the mind. Forge the character.

our Organization

IMC is a specialized program developed under the Recon Method, the overarching training approach that forms the foundation of our didactics and curriculum. Rooted in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), modern training methods, and the study of real-world violence, the Recon Method emphasizes realistic, contact-based learning and practical application.

Both the Recon Method and the IMC program operate under Magnus Defensus, an organization dedicated to strengthening resilience through education, mindset development, and practical preparedness.

Led by Michael von Pickartz—a former police officer and Red Beret with expertise in military close combat and civilian self-defense.
